The idea of getting fit may be a daunting one. You might think that you have to buy a new workout wardrobe, purchase a pricey gym membership, and muster to motivation to get yourself there at least every other day. However, if you take baby steps, you’ll reach your fitness goals before you know it. Try these six lifestyle changes that will put you on the road to fitness.
1. Turn off the screens
Being sedentary will get you nowhere. Unless you’re using your phone to listen to motivational music while you work-out, shut it all down. Screens are a distraction and can keep you from reaching your fitness goals. Keep your eyes on the prize and focus on the task at hand.
2. Go outside
Not only is being out in nature very therapeutic, but there are also a copious amount of outdoor activities you can do that are both fun and energizing. Gardening, throwing a Frisbee, taking a long stroll, and washing your car are all calorie-burners. Get outdoors and see what you can do.
3. Phone a friend
Being accountable to someone is a wonderful way to meet your fitness goals. Provide a trusted friend or family member with a list of your fitness goals and ask them to check in with you once a week to see how you’re doing. A gentle nudge from a loving pal can keep you on your path to fitness.
4. Track your progress
Create a spreadsheet and list your fitness and food goals for each day. Weigh once a week and enter that data as well. If you’re not the spreadsheet type, there are plenty of apps available that can help you record your info.
5. Treat yourself right
In our hyper-busy lives, it can be easy to neglect even our most basic needs. Getting plenty of sleep, taking prescribed supplements, indulging in an occasional non-food treat (a new book perhaps), and maintaining a positive attitude are all ways we can nurture ourselves on a daily basis.
